European Challenge Cup: Bristol make quarter-finals after 52-3 win over Brive

Bristol are all but assured a home quarter-final after thrashing Brive to top their European Challenge Cup pool.

Callum Sheedy's penalty and Piers O'Conor's try saw Bristol go 10-0 up early and, although Tedo Abzhandadze's penalty reduced the gap, Dave Attwood went over just before half-time.

Alapati Leiua's quick feet saw the Samoan get the third try on 47 minutes.

Sam Bedlow's score earned the bonus point before Luke Hamilton, Will Capon and Mat Protheroe completed the rout.

The bonus-point win over the French side means the Bears cannot be caught at the top of Pool Four having won all five of their games in Europe so far this season.

Pat Lam's men need just two points from their final game to ensure they are one of the best four group winners and earn home advantage in the knockout stages.

Bristol: Protheroe; Morahan, O'Conor, Bedlow, Leiua; Sheedy, Randall; Woolmore, Thacker, Lahiff, Attwood, Joyce, Luatua (capt), Thomas, Hamilton.

Replacements: Capon, Dawe, Thiede, Hawkins, Heenan, Uren, Lloyd, Powell.

Brive: Scholes; Bituniyata, Galletier, Darthou, Buliruarua; Abzhandadze, Lobzhanidze; Tapueluelu, Narisia, Thomas, Malafosse, Lebas, Cerqueira, Voisin (capt), Giorgadze.

Replacements: Karkadze, Asieshvili, Johnston, Uys, Kamikamica, Delarue, Herve, Romanet.

Referee: Ben Blain (Scotland).
