South Africachose to bowl v Ireland
Under cloudy skies and after a 45 minute delay thanks to morning showers, Temba Bavuma chose to make use of the overhead conditions and decided to unleash his attack on Ireland. The hosts have brought back former captain William Porterfield, who will open the batting with Paul Stirling, with George Dockrell playing as a specialist batter and with no room for South African-born Curtis Campher. The Irish attack includes left-armer Josh Little, two other quicks in Mark Adair and Craig Young, and two offspinners.
South Africa rested their top performer from the Caribbean - Quinton de Kock - and gave Janneman Malan an opportunity to open the batting alongside Aiden Markram, and benched fast bowler Anrich Nortje, who was hit on the knee in Grenada. The attack includes two specialist spinners, Keshav Maharaj and Tabraiz Shamsi, with three seam-bowling options in Kagiso Rabada, Lungi Ngidi and allrounder Andile Phehlukwayo. Kyle Verreynne will keep wicket in de Kock's absence.
With wet weather hanging around Dublin all day, there may be further delays in proceedings but up to 560 fans could brave the weather to watch the match live. Before play, a smattering of supporters were seen around the ground.
