ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- Colorado Avalanche All-Star forward Mikko Rantanen has recovered from an upper-body injury and will play in the team's first-round playoff series against Calgary.

Game 1 is Thursday night in Calgary.

Rantanen has been sidelined since taking a check into the boards near the team benches at Dallas on March 21. He's coming off a regular season in which he had career highs of 31 goals and 87 points. The right winger led the team with 16 power-play goals.

Colorado coach Jared Bednar said after practice Wednesday that he expects Rantanen to "play a lot, just like he normally does."

Rantanen said he feels "really good" heading into the Flames series. He had four assists in six games last season during a first-round playoff loss to Nashville.

NEW YORK -- Slava Voynov is appealing the suspension imposed by the NHL after it determined he committed acts of domestic violence.

Jonathan Weatherdon, a spokesman for the NHL Players' Association, said Wednesday that the organization had filed an appeal on behalf of Voynov. Players have the right to appeal suspensions to a neutral arbitrator, though a hearing date has not yet been set.

Commissioner Gary Bettman suspended Voynov on Tuesday for the 2019-20 season and 2020 playoffs for what the league called unacceptable off-ice conduct. The 29-year-old Russian could have his eligibility restored on July 1, 2020, based on good behavior.

Voynov was suspended indefinitely in October 2014 after being arrested and accused of abusing his wife. Voynov was a member of the Los Angeles Kings at the time of his arrest and subsequent suspension.

He pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor, left the United States to go back to Russia and in July had the conviction dismissed by a judge in Los Angeles. He has applied to be reinstated by the NHL.

The NHL conducted an investigation and held a hearing March 21 under the terms of the collective-bargaining agreement regarding the Oct. 19, 2014, incident involving Voynov and his wife. Bettman said he determined after that investigation and hearing that Voynov engaged in acts of domestic violence.

Nashville forward Austin Watson was suspended 27 games in September for unacceptable off-ice conduct following an investigation and hearing after he pleaded no contest in July to a charge of domestic assault stemming from an incident in June. Arbitrator Shyam Das reduced the suspension to 18 games on appeal.

Maurizio Sarri said he does not know why Danny Drinkwater is still at Chelsea after the midfielder was charged with drink-driving this week.

Drinkwater did not train with the rest of the Chelsea first team at Cobham on Wednesday and was left out of the 21-man travelling party to Czech Republic for the first leg of their Europa League quarterfinal against Slavia Prague.

His absence came after news broke that he had been arrested in the early hours of Monday morning -- prior to Chelsea's 2-0 win over West Ham in the Premier League -- after crashing his car on a country road in Mere, Greater Manchester as he reportedly drove home from a party.

Drinkwater, who has not featured in a single competitive game under Sarri this season, has been ordered to appear at Stockport Magistrates' Court on May 13 to face the charge -- and Chelsea's head coach reiterated that the midfielder is very unlikely to be seen on the pitch before then.

"I spoke with him in August when the market was open," Sarri said of Drinkwater. "I said to him to look for something different because in my opinion he doesn't play. I said to him the reasons, my reasons, but he decided to stay.

"I have a very good relationship with him because in my opinion he is a good boy, a good player but he is not suitable for me.

"He knows very well [why] -- he has never played because in my opinion he is not suited to my system and my way of playing. I told him everything in August, he appreciated but decided to remain and so he knew very well the situation."

Asked why he thinks Drinkwater is still at Chelsea, Sarri replied: "I don't know. [Maybe] he hoped we could change the decision."

Chelsea have attempted to offload Drinkwater in each of the last two transfer windows, but have so far been unable to find a suitor prepared to offer a significant return on the £30 million they paid to sign him from Leicester City in the summer of 2017 as well as match his £100,000-a-week wages.

Sarri and Chelsea declined to comment on Drinkwater's drink-driving charge as it is subject to ongoing legal proceedings, but the Italian revealed he will discuss it with his player later this week.

"Not this week," Sarri said when asked if he has spoken to Drinkwater. "Yesterday I arrived at training and it was beginning with [Chelsea assistant Gianfranco] Zola. After the training I went immediately to work because I wanted to see the last match of Slavia. I think I will speak with him on Friday."

Another player whose future at Stamford Bridge has been the subject of speculation is Andreas Christensen. The academy graduate has grown publicly frustrated with a lack of first-team opportunities under Sarri, and has started just four Premier League games this season.

But speaking ahead of another likely appearance against Slavia, the Dane reassured Chelsea he is not looking to force a move away.

"I haven't had a conversation with the club at all [about my future]," he insisted. "I said I'd like to stay. I still have a long contract, I've been here since I was 16. The club has done a lot for me.

"It's been six years and I've always seen myself as a youth product. There are a couple here now. It hasn't changed, I'm a Chelsea player and product and hopefully I'll keep being that.

"If you're not playing you get jealous. We are hungry to play and everything we worked for, we want to get into the team. It makes me more hungry but we want to play [all the time].

"It's always healthy competition [between the centre-backs], we try to push each other. I've been happy with my performances, but there's always healthy competition."

MANCHESTER, England -- Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said he has seen enough during Manchester United's defeat to Barcelona to believe his team can force another dramatic Champions League turnaround.

And the Norwegian believes that if United can knock out Barcelona at the Nou Camp next week after the 1-0 first leg defeat at Old Trafford it will eclipse the 3-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes in the last round.

"To do it would be an even greater achievement than that," Solskjaer told a news conference on Wednesday night. "The PSG performance gives us the hope and belief that we can do it.

"We are playing against probably the favourites in this tournament and going to the Nou Camp is going to a challenge. With the history Barca have, and they are not used to losing at home but we can do it.

"We can carry a goal threat, but we have to provide more ammunition and chances."

United failed to register shot on target against Barcelona -- who won thanks to Luke Shaw's early own goal after he deflected in Luis Suarez's header -- but Solskjaer was still buoyed by the performance that owed much to the tenacity of Scott McTominay in midfield.

The 22-year-old was picked after injuries ruled out both Nemanja Matic and Ander Herrera and he excelled against Sergio Busquets and Ivan Rakitic.

"The boy is developing every time he plays," said Solskjaer. "He comes into training every day with a fantastic attitude and that's the way to improve.

"Every game he grows and he grows and today he was the first one who took the ball down and settled us. We had to slow the game down.

"We were too quick to give the ball away. After 15 or 20 minutes we settled and Scott and Fred and Paul [Pogba], the three midfielders did really well."

Shaw will miss the second leg after picking up a booking for a foul on Lionel Messi, but Solskjaer was left perplexed as to how Busquets had stayed on the pitch for 90 minutes after committing a series of fouls after picking up a yellow card of his own in the first half.

"Why does Luke Shaw get a yellow card when he does his?" said Solskjaer. "It's just that consistency and definitely yes [Busquets should have been sent off].

"There's nothing we can do about it. I can't complain about the referee. We haven't had any homers, if you put it that way. We are where we are and he's going to play against over there. We have to go there with the same belief and same energy as he did in Paris."

The United States will get their rematch with Trinidad & Tobago in the group stage of the 2019 Gold Cup.

The draw for the tournament, which will feature 16 teams for the first time in its history, was announced on Wednesday.

The U.S. already knew it would be placed in Group D, and it contains some familiar foes in Panama, Trinidad & Tobago and Guyana.

The U.S. will first play Guyana on June 18 in St. Paul, Minnesota at newly built Allianz Field. The competition hosts will then take on T&T in Cleveland four days later in a match that will mark the first time the two teams have squared off since the Soca Warriors' 2-1 victory in World Cup qualifying that eliminated the U.S. The group will then conclude on June 26 with the U.S facing Panama -- the team that qualified for Russia 2018 at the U.S.'s expense -- in Kansas City.

Meanwhile, Mexico headlines Group A, where it will be joined by Canada, Cuba and Martinique. The group's games will take place in Pasadena, California on June 15, Denver on June 19, and Charlotte four days later.

In Group B, Costa Rica will host a Gold Cup match for the first time in the country's history on June 16, with the group's later games to take place in Frisco, Texas on June 20 and Harrison, New Jersey on June 25. The Ticos are joined by Haiti, Nicaragua and Gold Cup debutants Bermuda.

In Group C, Jamaica is another country that will be hosting matches for the first time on June 17. Houston will host a doubleheader on June 21, with the group finales taking place four days later in Los Angeles. The Reggae Boyz are joined by Honduras, El Salvador and Curaçao.

The U.S. ostensibly has the easier route to the final given that Mexico and Costa Rica are in the other half of the bracket. That said, given its failure to qualify for the 2018 World Cup, and the relative difficulty of its group, the hosts will be taking nothing for granted.

Six teams qualified for the Gold Cup on the basis of competing in the final round of qualifying for the 2018 World Cup. The remaining 10 teams qualified on the basis of their finish in the qualifying stage the CONCACAF Nations League.

The final will be held at Chicago's Soldier Field on July 7.

Kieron Pollard last played an ODI in October 2016 but may still have hopes of making it to the West Indies World Cup squad because of a new set-up running Cricket West Indies (CWI). After smashing his highest IPL score - 83 off 31 balls - to help Mumbai Indians edge Kings XI Punjab in a last-ball finish in Mumbai on Wednesday night, Pollard was asked if he thought he would be picked in the World Cup squad that will be announced later this month, and he indirectly said anything could be possible.

"Every time I get the opportunity to play, I want to do my best," Pollard said. "There has been a lot of turmoil in West Indies cricket over the last couple of years. We have seen in the last couple of weeks there's a change. Pollard was one of the guys blacklisted. The most I can do every time I step on the cricket field is try to put runs on the board. There's people there who have the job to select and whatever and let's see how that goes. As I said, I'm 31 years, Chris Gayle is still playing, he's 39, and he's whacking it all around."

Pollard was referring to Dave Cameron's controversial reign as the CWI president coming to an end last month when Ricky Skerritt, a former West Indies team manager, beat Cameron by an 8-4 margin in the board elections. Cameron had several fallouts with senior West Indies players, especially Darren Sammy who led them to two World T20 titles.

When asked if West Indies could be one of the stronger sides at the World Cup, given the form of some of the West Indies players in the IPL, Pollard said: "Yeah, of course you can say that. But again, as I said that's why there's people…we have a new chairman of selectors, there's a new president of the cricket board, and as I said you take it as it comes. Last year, you might not have been asking me that question. Yes, I scored runs tonight so all sorts of questions will come but for me it's just about enjoying cricket and doing my best with my god-given talent.

"We know what we can do and I think Chris batted superbly. A fellow West Indian is [Andre] Russell…he's smacking the ball and it's great to see the way he's hitting the ball and [Sunil] Narine. These guys are having a good tournament and again, when your mind is free, you just go out and enjoy cricket. You don't think about much because there are a lot of opinions, there are a lot of things, but it's people as close to you and what they think matters."

Pollard had recently returned to the T20I squad for West Indies when in October it emerged that the door was opening for some senior players to feature in the World Cup. CWI officials had stated that availability for domestic tournaments was a requirement to be picked for West Indies squads, and they advanced the domestic 50-over competition (Super50 Cup) from February 2019 to October 2018 to avoid a clash with any T20 leagues. CWI had said if the players featured in the Super50 and performed, they could be picked for the World Cup.

Pollard represented his domestic side Trinidad & Tobago in all seven games but with unimpressive figures - 69 runs from seven innings to average under 10, and took three wickets in the 50 balls he bowled in the tournament.

However, Pollard then went on to score 284 runs in the PSL in 13 innings at a strike rate of 173.17, and take five wickets, for Peshawar Zalmi. In the IPL, he has so far scored 179 runs in six innings, with two unbeaten knocks, to average 44.75, and is striking at 194.56.
