Bucks say Jackson unhurt in single-vehicle wreck
MILWAUKEE -- Milwaukee Bucks reserve guard Andre Jackson Jr. was involved in a single-vehicle wreck after his team's Saturday morning workout but didn't require medical attention, the team said.
A Bucks spokesperson said Jackson was alone in his car and that the incident didn't result in any injuries. The spokesperson said Jackson will be joining the team for its Sunday game at Brooklyn.
Jackson was a key player on UConn's 2023 national championship team. The Bucks acquired him in a draft-day trade that year after he was selected in the second round with the 36th overall pick.
The 6-foot-6 guard averaged 2.2 points, two rebounds and 10 minutes in 57 appearances as a rookie last season. He played a minute in the Bucks' 124-109 season-opening victory at Philadelphia on Wednesday and didn't see any action in their 133-122 loss to the Chicago Bulls on Friday.
Miami's Fray avoids 4th ACL tear, out till early '25
Inter Miami CF defender Ian Fray suffered an injury to his right medial meniscus during the 2-1 MLS playoff win over Atlanta United Saturday at Chase Stadium, the club announced Saturday.
The player will undergo surgery in the coming days, with a a source telling ESPN that he is expected to return to the field in early 2025.
Inter Miami initially feared another ACL tear for the player after he limped off the pitch in the 92nd minute with the help of the team's athletic trainers. Fray exited Chase Stadium in crunches, unable to put pressure on the knee.
The defender previously suffered ACL tears in 2021, 2022 and 2023.
He returned from the latest injury on June 19 in the 2-1 victory over the Columbus Crew, where he scored the first goal for the Herons.
Despite Miami's victory over Atlanta in the opening game of the best-of-three first-round playoff series, head coach Gerardo "Tata" Martino said the team couldn't celebrate due to Fray's injury.
"In the end, I think we feel not as much satisfaction as we could have in the [result] of the match, more because of Ian," said Martino.
"We are all a little bit sad."
Inter Miami now prepares to travel to Mercedes-Benz Stadium for the second match against Atlanta on Nov. 2. Should Miami win, it will advance to the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Latham 'lost for words' as New Zealand scale new heights
"I'm sort of lost for words," Latham said. "It's obviously an immensely proud moment for this group. I think coming off the back of a Sri Lankan series where we didn't get the results that we wanted to come here and play the style of cricket that we played. We're obviously immensely proud to be in the position of winning two Test matches here. A lot of New Zealand teams have come here over the past I guess to be the first team to win a series over here is immensely special and, yeah, very proud of this group."
So what did Latham's New Zealand do better than the other New Zealand teams of the past and this current India team?
"I think we've been on the right side of a couple of tosses," Latham said. "That obviously played a big part I think, especially in Bangalore. Just as I said, I think we've come here, and we've wanted to fire a shot. We've wanted to be the one that puts India under pressure, what that may look like from a batting point of view or a bowling point of view. I certainly think we've done that. I think the way we played in this game with the bat was really important. I think it was a wicket where time wasn't necessarily an issue, it was runs."
It's incredibly rare for any overseas team to out-bat and out-bowl India in a Test match. This New Zealand team has managed to do that twice in contrasting conditions in Bengaluru and Pune.
New Zealand's bowlers had thrown the first punch in Benglauru in seaming conditions, where they skittled India for 46. New Zealand's batters then threw the first punch in Pune on a turner, where they countered R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Washington Sundar with a variety of sweeps, including the reverse. Latham was pleased with his players buying into the attack-first approach.
"We've come here, and we've wanted to compete, and we've wanted to fire a shot first up," Latham said. "I certainly think we've done that in both games. Obviously with the ball in the first game but also with the bat here. Being able to put first innings runs on the board has been really important. Obviously the bowlers went to work over the last couple of days which has been very pleasing to see."
"He did a fantastic job," Latham said of Santner. "I think obviously the wickets that he got... But I think what will go unnoticed is the amount of overs he bowled back-to-back. I think Will [O'Rourke] bowled one over with the new ball from that end and Mitch bowled the rest. Someone like that to come and bowl that amount of overs, to keep in a threat for that amount of time.
"I keep trying to take him off, but he keeps taking a wicket. So, I said 'you can keep going'. Look, I can't praise him enough in terms of what he's done this game. He was simply fantastic."
LOS ANGELES -- Major League Baseball is hoping to know by Christmas whether Tropicana Field will be playable to begin the 2025 season after the roof was torn off by Hurricane Milton earlier this month.
Speaking before Game 2 of the World Series on Saturday, commissioner Rob Manfred said the process to determine whether timely repairs of the Tampa Bay Rays' stadium are feasible is ongoing.
"They're still in the damage-assessment mode," Manfred said. "They're trying to figure out how bad the damage is that needs to get done and obviously it was not just the roof."
Manfred indicated there are several options available if Tropicana Field isn't ready for Opening Day. They include playing at a minor league or spring facility, with a source saying Tampa, Dunedin and Clearwater are among the possible cities.
The New York Yankees' Class A team, the Tampa Tarpons, play in Tampa, but it is not known whether that would be the likely home for the Rays. There are several other minor league teams in the area as well.
Wherever the Rays play, the field and/or stadium would likely need altering to accommodate two big league teams.
"It starts with the playing surface and the safety of the ballpark itself," MLBPA executive director Tony Clark said Friday before Game 1. "Ensuring that you can get the work done that you need to get done and that the surface is reflective, and the ballpark is reflective, of major league standards."
The league is already altering another minor league park, in Sacramento, to accommodate the Athletics while their new stadium is being built in Las Vegas. The league is installing a grass surface for safer conditions because of the summer heat.
As for the Rays, it's also possible the MLB or MiLB schedule might have to be slightly altered to accommodate a move to a different park, but the league has yet to decide a course of action. That should come before the New Year.
"There was damage internally as well, and we won't know exactly what's going to happen until they complete that process," Manfred said.

Ancelotti slams Barça celebrations in Clásico rout
Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti was unhappy with how Barcelona's bench celebrated their fourth goal after seeing his side beaten 4-0 in Saturday's Clásico at the Santiago Bernabéu.
Robert Lewandowski scored twice, with Lamine Yamal and Raphinha also finding the net as Barça ended Madrid's 42-game unbeaten streak in LaLiga and moved six points clear of them at the top of the table.
The celebrations after the fourth goal, Raphinha's 10th of the campaign, spilled in front of the Madrid bench with Ancelotti confronting Barça coach Hansi Flick. Ancelotti, though, said his issue was with the behaviour of one of Flick's assistants.
"[The problem] was with the assistant, not with Flick," Ancelotti said in his post-game news conference when asked to clear up what had happened on the touchline.
"The assistant was not a gentleman with the way he celebrated in front of bench. And Flick agreed with us."
Asked about the incident in his news conference, Flick said: "I didn't see it. I just spoke with Carlo and it was something ... it's normal in this situation, when you celebrate a goal maybe it's not ... we're old enough to speak about that."
Madrid had won the last four Clásicos in all competitions and avoiding defeat here would have seen them match Barça's LaLiga record 43-game unbeaten streak.
However, following a goalless first half, they collapsed after the break.
Lewandowski scored twice in three minutes to take his tally to 17 for the campaign in all competitions. Then Yamal, becoming the youngest ever Clásico scorer at 17, and Raphinha completed the rout.
"Until the goal it was an even game," Ancelotti said. "We had chances and could have scored, but we weren't clinical.
"When they score, it saps some energy from you and it becomes another game. They did a lot of damage on the counter.
"I liked the first half, we have to follow that line. We don't have to throw everything away, we just have to forget the last 30 minutes. We can't give up, we just have to learn.
"We came out of the last defeat well against Atlético Madrid last season and we have to do the same. I am certain we will do better."
Craig Burley sounds off on a nightmare second half from Real Madrid as they slump to a 4-0 defeat to Barcelona in El Clasico.
It proved a tough introduction to the Clásico for Kylian Mbappé, who had two goals ruled out for offside and missed a slew of chances.
In total, Mbappé was caught offside eight times -- tied for most in a LaLiga game in the last 15 seasons -- as Los Blancos, who had 12 offsides in total, struggled to get in behind Barça's high line.
"We took risks with his position," Ancelotti added of Mbappé's performance. "They have a high line and due to fine margins we have not been able to take advantage of it.
"He has also had three or four chances and has not taken them when we need a little more.
"The result doesn't reflect what happened on pitch. Barça go ahead and then the confidence that came from that changed the game. We took risks and they're a team in form who were dangerous on the break.
"The defeat worries me but we have to pick ourselves up quickly.
"We have to keep fighting. We're not going to be that far away this season from what we did last season."
The result capped a remarkable week for Barça, coming just four days after they demolished Bayern Munich 4-1 in the Champions League.
Under Flick they have now won 12 out of 14 games in all competitions, but the German coach refused to get carried away.
"We start the journey and we're doing really well," he said. "Like I always say, we have to make things better and we do it also, but today was not easy.
"We keep going with our idea, we have a flow at the moment and we have to keep going.
"I've always said I'm really happy to work for Barça and also to live in Barcelona. It's an amazing job, it's a new part of my life and it feels really good.
"Today we made a fantastic match and I'm really proud about the team. And how we play is very important as well.
"This will give the players more confidence. The celebration in the dressing room was good to see. Now we have a recovery day, then I give the players two days off and after the focus is on Espanyol next weekend."
Mbappé's El Clásico debut a disaster for Real Madrid
MADRID -- Robert Lewandowski scored twice, while Lamine Yamal and Raphinha tallied goals each, as Barcelona capped a remarkable week by routing Real Madrid 4-0 in Saturday's Clásico at the Santiago Bernabéu. With the lopsided loss, Real Madrid saw their 42-game unbeaten streak in LaLiga snapped.
Veteran striker Lewandowski scored twice in three second-half minutes to set Barça on their way, with Yamal firing the third into the roof of the net and Raphinha lofting the fourth over the head of goalkeeper Andriy Lunin, who was filling in for the injured Thibaut Courtois.
The win comes just three days after Barça trounced Bayern Munich 4-1 in the Champions League, and it moves them six points clear of rivals Madrid at the top of the LaLiga table after 11 games.
Madrid had not tasted defeat in the league since losing to Atlético Madrid at the beginning of last season, and even a draw here would have seen them draw level with Barça's LaLiga record 43-game unbeaten streak.
However, after a goalless first half in which Kylian Mbappé and Real Madrid wasted a slew of chances, Carlo Ancelotti's side were torn apart by a ruthless Barça side, whose incredible start to the season under new coach Hansi Flick continued at the home of their biggest rivals.
Here are the big talking points from El Clásico:
Mbappé has a Clásico debut to forget
This was supposed to be the Clásico of Mbappé, his first since joining Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer in the biggest blockbuster move of the summer transfer window. He has always enjoyed playing Barça, scoring six times against them in four appearances with the French side, but his luck was out on Saturday.
An early miss, later ruled offside anyway, set the tone for an evening of misses and offsides. One of those offsides was given after he thought he had opened the scoring, dinking the ball over Iñaki Peña, but the VAR revealed he mistimed his run behind Iñigo Martínez.
In total, Mbappe was caught offside six times in the first half, more than he has been offside in any game previously in his career, before another two offsides in the second half. His eight offside calls in a single game is is tied for the most of any player in the last 15 LaLiga seasons.
His first official shot on goal didn't arrive until the 61st minute in the end. More followed, as well as another offside goal, but his finishing left something to be desired. Peña denied him on every occasion. He could have learned a thing or two from Lewandowski at the other end.
It has not been a disastrous start to his Madrid career by any means, but these are the games he was signed to have an impact on.
He has eight goals in all competitions so far, but the feeling is Madrid fans are still waiting for him to click in a new-look attack alongside Vinícius Júnior and with Jude Bellingham behind.
There was palpable frustration from supporters as more offsides followed in the second half and the game, perhaps fittingly, ended with another offside flag and another save from Peña as Mbappé raced through.
Lewandowski anchors the youthful revolution at Barcelona
Barça fielded their second-youngest team in a Clásico fixture in 80 years and their youngest since 1956. The difference-maker, though, was 36-year-old Lewandowski, who wrestled this game away from Madrid with a masterclass in finishing at the start of the second half.
The Poland international, played onside by Ferland Mendy, finished brilliantly in the 54th minute after being played through by Marc Casadó and then, three minutes later, guided a superb header past Lunin from Alejandro Balde's left wing cross.
Lewandowski's form was criticised at times last season, but he's been brilliant under his former Bayern boss Flick. He has now netted 14 goals in LaLiga in just 11 appearances this season -- and 17 in all competitions. He is benefitting from staying more centrally, getting more of the ball in and around the area and letting the youngsters do the running around him.
It was one of the youngsters, 17-year-old Yamal, who took the game away from Madrid late on. Predominantly left footed, he perhaps caught Madrid out by taking his chance early on his right foot, blazing the ball past Lunin as a stunned silence fell around the Bernabeu. In doing so, Yamal became the youngest ever scorer in the Clásico.
Raphinha, fresh from a midweek hat-trick, added the fourth and Barça will look back at missed chances before Yamal's goal -- one absolutely glaring miss from Lewandowski especially -- and wonder if they may have scored even more on the night.
Barça's high line reaps rewards again
A theme of Barça's season has been their aggressive high line, along with their relentless pressing. Prior to the Clásico, they had the highest defensive line in LaLiga at 61 yards when the ball is in the opposition half. As a result, they have this season drawn over 70 offsides -- more than double any other side in the top five European leagues.
After coming though the Bayern test in midweek, the big question was whether they would pull it off against Madrid, Mbappé and Vinícius?
Ale Moreno pours praise on Hansi Flick and his young Barcelona team for demolishing rivals Real Madrid 4-0 away from home.
There were some hairy moments in the first half, not least the disallowed goal from Mbappé, but Pau Cubarsí and Martínez stuck to their task, stuck as close to the halfway line as possible and caught Madrid offside time and time again. In the end, Los Blancos were offside 12 times in the game -- and eight in the first half alone.
The offside trap was helped by the relentless pressing in midfield and further forward from the likes of Casadó, Fermín López and Raphinha, with the former rewarded with an assist for the opening goal. It feels like this team under Flick could go far now.
Ancelotti has work to do with his Real Madrid team of superstars
Whatever way you look at it, it was a disastrous night for Madrid. Not only did they lose their long unbeaten run and fall six points behind Barça in LaLiga, but they suffered their third largest loss in LaLiga of all time. They have not suffered such a defeat at home in the league since 1974.
It brings back to the the surface a number of issues which have been present throughout this season, even if they have often been papered over by brilliant individual displays, such as Vinícius' hat-trick in the midweek comeback against Borussia Dortmund.
However, they deeply miss Toni Kroos. What Mbappé and Vinícius would do to have his passing in behind. There is still something lacking in attack, despite the obvious quality, and there is the Bellingham issue. He is without a goal in 11 games this season after registering a career-high 23 last term.
To cap it all off, with Courtois and David Alaba missing, they collapsed defensively in the second half.
The season is still young, and Madrid have a habit of peaking when it matters, but Ancelotti has work to do.
Ducks' Gabriel now 2nd in FBS history in pass TDs
EUGENE, Oregon -- Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel threw his 18th touchdown of the season Saturday against Illinois, passing former Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore for the second-most touchdown passes thrown in FBS history with 143.
Gabriel, who had three touchdown passes as also a rushing score in the first half of the game between No. 1 Oregon and No. 20 Illinois, found Noah Whittington with a 2-yard shovel pass toward the end of the second half for a score that put the Ducks up 35-3.
Gabriel now trails former Houston quarterback Case Keenum (155) for the most passing touchdowns in FBS history.
The 23-year-old sixth-year senior has been in college since 2019 and spent three seasons at UCF (70 passing touchdowns) and two seasons at Oklahoma (55) before transferring this offseason to Oregon, where he has put together a Heisman-contending season. Gabriel has thrown for more than 3,000 passing yards in four separate seasons and is well on his way to another season over that threshold.
Mbappé woe as Barcelona thrash wasteful Madrid
Robert Lewandowski scored twice and Lamine Yamal added a third goal to ruin Kylian Mbappé's first Clásico as Barcelona romped to a 4-0 win over Real Madrid on Saturday.
Lewandowski scored from a superb pass by Barcelona's latest youth talent Marc Casadó in the 54th minute and headed in a second goal three minutes later to silence Santiago Bernabéu Stadium.
Those were goals 16 and 17 overall for the Poland striker this season, taking his league-best tally to 14. He also hit the post.
Yamal made it a rout in the 77th when the 17-year-old phenom rifled a shot from an angle over goalkeeper Andriy Lunin to become the youngest Clásico goal scorer. Raphinha got involved in the burgundy-and-blue party when he broke free with Madrid pressing forward and chipped Lunin in the 84th.
Mbappé had a frustrating first game against Barcelona in a white shirt.
The France star was repeatedly caught offside by Barcelona's synchronized back four and failed to beat second-choice goalkeeper Iñaki Peña one-on-one with his team down two goals.
Hansi Flick, meanwhile, had a night to remember in the first Clásico for the German coach.
Barcelona opened a six-point lead at the top of LaLiga over second-placed Madrid after 11 rounds.
After four consecutive Clásico defeats, the Catalans claimed their first triumph over Madrid since March 2023 in style with a clinical performance in which they were true to coach Flick's ideas of gambling with an aggressively high defence.
"We had a tough week with tough games, but we knew how to pull it out. We played a great game," Casadó, an unknown reserve team player until Flick picked him to be his holding midfielder, said after his impressive outing.
Casadó was one of five homegrown players whom Flick put in his starting lineup, the same XI that beat Bayern Munich 4-1 in the Champions League three days before. A total of six players under 22 years old started for Barcelona, led by 17-year-olds Yamal and Pau Cubarsí, and showed no signs of being intimidated by the scenario.
Yamal upstaged Mbappé this summer when Spain beat France en route to winning the European Championship, and he did it again when he displayed the finishing touch that Mbappé was lacking. To top it off, he scored his fine goal with his supposedly "not as good" right foot.
Mbappé was ruled offside five times in the first half hour, as Barcelona pressed high. Vinícius Júnior, who featured in a fascinating duel with Cubarsí, missed a golden chance in the 21st when he shot past the post from close range.
Peña was questioned whether he was up to the task of replacing Marc-André ter Stegen, out long term with a knee injury. His strong performance, which included two stops to deny Mbappé, was his first great game in goal for Barcelona.
"Our coach said that playing a high defensive line was non-negotiable," Peña said. "It is risky to play with such a high defense line, but the effort and work of the entire team is reflected in the offside traps we are creating."
Raphinha's goal confirmed his massive step forward under Flick. The Brazil forward, who acted as Barcelona captain, has 10 goals in this campaign.

LOS ANGELES -- Walker Buehler will start Game 3 for the Los Angeles Dodgers from Yankee Stadium on Monday night, keeping the rotation in line and setting up a bullpen day for Game 4.
Starting Buehler in Game 3 -- rather than utilizing the off-day to run the bullpen game that night -- lines him up as an option for a potential winner-take-all Game 7 from Dodger Stadium.
Buehler, who will oppose New York Yankees right-hander Clarke Schmidt, has generated less swing-and-miss with his fastball coming off a second Tommy John surgery, forcing him to reinvent himself in a high-stakes environment.
In Game 3 from Citi Field in New York last week, Buehler leaned on his curveball to escape tough jams, holding the New York Mets scoreless through four innings to set up an 8-0 victory. He pitched differently, but in some instances, he resembled the frontline starter who powered the Dodgers' rotation in Octobers past.
"We love Walker in big games," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said. "The road isn't going to faze him."
