Anahat Singh has arrived. This 14-year-old from Delhi has been selected for the Indian squad for the Commonwealth Games 2022 as well as the Asian Games.

It’s an astonishing achievement for one so young, but it is totally on merit. Coached by Indian squash legend Ritwik Bhattacharya, Anahat has taken the squash world by storm with her phenomenal results during the past three months, playing with distinction, fire and brilliance.

She produced an outstandingly consistent performance level at the Indian Women’s Team Trials in April. First she sailed through the Under-15 trials then went on to break into the senior squad selected for the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, as well as the Asian Games 2022 in Thailand.

Last week, Anahat was the number one performer in the Under-19 Girls Trials with yet another incredible display of squash. She won six matches on the trot – without dropping a game.

Anahat is from Delhi and studies at The British School in Chanakya Puri, where she is in the ninth grade. She trains at the Sirifort Sports Club and her squash journey began when she joined her elder sister Amira, who was one of India’s top juniors and is now studying at Harvard.

Anahat followed her sister around in the initial years where the girls were coached by Amjad Khan. Since then she has attended training camps with a lot of coaches including Shahid Zaman Khan and Stephane Galifi. During lockdown her parents built her a makeshift court in their home so she could play when all clubs were closed.

Since last year she has been training with former Indian No.1 Bhattacharya at the Start Academy and also with her father Gursharan, who is totally hands-on in planning her training and development.

She is supported by the Virat Kohli Foundation and Dunlop India.
