Sources: Warriors, Looney agree to 3-year deal

Free-agent center Kevon Looney has agreed to a three-year, $25.5 million deal to return to the Golden State Warriors, sources told ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski on Friday.

Looney has grown into a stable NBA big man who may not do the flashy things other centers can but is a reliable post player, switch defender and elite glass-crasher. He averaged a career-high 7.3 rebounds per game last season, including one game with 22 rebounds and two with 18.

Those skills proved to be a deciding factor in Golden State's playoff series wins over the Memphis Grizzlies and Dallas Mavericks, as Looney helped give the Warriors the rebounding edge over both teams.

The highlight of his season came in Game 2 of the Western Conference finals against Dallas, when he scored 21 points, grabbed 12 boards and held the Mavericks to 1-of-11 shooting from the field as the primary defender.

Perhaps the biggest upside to Looney's breakout season was that he proved he could remain healthy, as he played in every regular-season and playoff game of the 2021-22 season.

ESPN's Kendra Andrews contributed to this report.
