MECHANICSBURG, Pa. – A spectator was killed on Friday night at Williams Grove Speedway when a sprint car flipped into the infield.
Anthony Macri and Robbie Kendall were racing for position late in the 410 sprint car feature when the two collided on the frontstretch.
According to reports, the resulting incident sent Kendall’s car flipping over the infield fence, where it struck 67-year-old Richard Speck, who was sitting in the back of his pickup truck along the fence line.
The remainder of the racing card was immediately canceled for the evening and Freddie Rahmer was declared the winner of the 410 sprint car feature as law enforcement and medical personnel were called to the scene.
Speck was pronounced dead at the scene according to the Cumberland County Coroner.
