Scotland bat first in Ireland's must-win game

Toss Scotland opt to bat vs Ireland

On a high after their big win over West Indies on Monday, Scotland captain Richie Berrington won the toss and chose to set a total against Ireland in sunny Hobart. For the Scotland side, another win would make them firm favourites to qualify into the Super 12s while for Ireland anything other than a win would greatly diminish their qualification chances, having lost to Zimbabwe earlier.

With four of the first six T20 World Cup matches being won by the team batting first, Berrington's choice at the toss did not come as a surprise, more so since Scotland used that template to earn their first set of two points in their 42-run win over West Indies.

The pitch at the Bellerive Oval is a used surface, however, the experts at the ground expect it to be batter friendly. If the pitch does deteriorate, then spin could play a role, especially in the second innings with Scotland's Mark Watt and Michael Leask expected to share eight overs. Ireland will be reliant on Josh Little's new-ball swing bowling to set the tone. Both sides were unchanged.

Ireland XI: Paul Stirling, Andrew Balbirnie (capt), Lorcan Tucker (wicketkeeper), Harry Tector, Curtis Campher, George Dockrell, Gareth Delany, Mark Adair, Simi Singh, Barry McCarthy, Josh Little.

Scotland XI: George Munsey, Michael Jones, Matthew Cross (wicketkeeper), Richie Berrington (captain), Calum MacLeod, Michael Leask, Chris Greaves, Mark Watt, Josh Davey, Safyaan Sharif, Brad Wheal
