Participants had a chance to qualify through the Continental stages, or, if unsuccessful initially, apply for one of the seven Wild Card spots available per gender. The last stops of the Continental phase concluded in Almaty (KAZ) for the Asia Hopes and Hamilton (NZL) for the Oceania Hopes at the end of October.

As all previous stages of the Hopes journey, the World Hopes Week is intended as a collaborative and educational opportunity for both players and coaches. Coaches are an integral part of a player’s development, and therefore one particular focus of the Hopes program generally and the World Hopes Week specifically is coaches’ education. All participating coaches are required to complete an online course prior to the activity, and have the opportunity to submit an assignment, with the coach who submits the best one able to present it to their peers during the World Hopes Week. In addition, they will be awarded an ITTF Educational Coaching Scholarship to the value of up to US$1000.
