Ranking points awarded during the year 2021 will expire in batches between January and May 2023. The decision was approved by the ITTF Executive Committee last week in Amman, Jordan during the ITTF Summit.

The ITTF Table Tennis Ranking of a player is composed of the sum of the points of the best eight results achieved in the last 12 months. However, some special measures were introduced to mitigate the impact of COVID-19, including the extension of the validity of points awarded at 2021 senior events.

With an increased number of events in the second half of 2022 and an exciting calendar coming up for 2023, a plan for the expiration of events has been formulated by the ITTF World Ranking Working Group.

Expiration date Inclusion date       Events expiring
3rd January 2023         (Week #1) 2021 Week #1 to Week #26
  • 2021 WTT Star Contender Doha
  • 2021 WTT Contender Doha

  • 2021 Czech, Kazakhstan and Ecuador International Opens
23rd May 2023 (Week #21) 2021 Week #48 to Week #52
  • 2021 ITTF World Table Tennis Championships Houston
  • 2021 WTT Cup Finals
  • 2021 WTT Feeder Düsseldorf

  • 2022 Europe Top-16 Cup
  • 2022 Mediterranean Games
  • 2022 Central American, Caribbean, Eastern/Western/Northern African Championships

This decision comes with perfect timing as World Table Tennis unveiled the first half of its events calendar with more than 15 events across three continents, allowing players to plan and prepare before the expiration of points won at key events held in 2021 and 2022.

From 4 July 2023, points awarded at events will have a one-year validity as per the ITTF Table Tennis World Ranking Regulations.
