Netherlands bowl first; Ngidi comes in for Rabada

Toss Netherlands choose to bowl vs South Africa

Netherlands won the toss and chose to bowl in the third ODI against South Africa in Johannesburg. The visitors' captain Scott Edwards said he expected the pitch to help the bowlers initially, and announced two changes to the side that had lost the second match three days back: right-arm seamer Vivian Kingma replaced Ryan Klein in a like-for-like swap, while middle-order batter Tom Cooper came in for allrounder Teja Nidamanuru.

Temba Bavuma, meanwhile, believed that once set, the track at Wanderers could even help his side post around 350. In the only change to South Africa's side, fast bowler Lungi Ngidi took the place of Kagiso Rabada.

It is all but a must-win game for the hosts, who stand at ninth in the Super League table. The top eight sides from there qualify directly for the ODI World Cup later this year, and ten points today will take South Africa to up eighth with 98 points. However, even if they win against Netherlands today, they will be hoping that Ireland don't sweep all three of their upcoming ODIs against Bangladesh in May.

If Ireland happen to do that, then they as well as South Africa will both be stuck on 98 points and with nine wins each; while the number of wins is the first tie-breaker, the net run rate will then come into play.

Meanwhile, irrespective of the result today, Netherlands are set to play in the World Cup Qualifiers in Zimbabwe, hoping to then make it to the main event.

Netherlands: 1 Vikramjit Singh, 2 Max O'Dowd, 3 Musa Ahmed, 4 Wesley Barresi, 5 Scott Edwards (capt), 6 Tom Cooper, 7 Shariz Ahmad, 8 Aryan Dutt, 9 Vivian Kingma, 10 Paul van Meekeren, 11 Fred Klaassen

South Africa: 1 Temba Bavuma (capt), 2 Quinton de Kock (wk), 3 Rassie van der Dussen, 4 Aiden Markram, 5 David Miller, 6 Heinrich Klaasen, 7 Marco Jansen, 8 Sisanda Magala, 9 Lungi Ngidi, 10 Anrich Nortje, 11 Tabraiz Shamsi
