Eugene hosts world’s top national championships with its usual high quality and shocks while Shericka Jackson impresses in Kingston

US Championships, Eugene, USA, July 6-9

World 400m hurdles record-holder Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone won the 400m title in a world lead and PB 48.74, a US Championships record.

It moves her to 10th on the world all-time list and was just 0.04 outside Sanya Richards-Ross’ US record as Britton Wilson (49.79) and Talitha Diggs (49.93) completed the top three.

Former world champion and mother-of-three Nia Ali won the 100m hurdles in 12.37 for the second fastest time of her career as she defeated former world record-holder Keni Harrison (12.42) with Masai Russell (12.46) edging Alaysha Johnson (12.46) by just 0.002 – 12.458 to 12.460.

Gabby Thomas ran an impressive 21.60/-0.4 to win the 200m for the sixth fastest time in history, well clear of Sha’Carri Richardson (21.94) and Kayla White (22.01) who also ran PB’s and confirmed their spots for Budapest.

Richardson had earlier won the 100m in 10.82/0.7 after a 10.75/0.7 heat.

Erriyon Knighton (19.74/-0.1) won the men’s 200m.

With Grant Holloway not contesting the final as he had a wildcard, Daniel Roberts (13.04/-0.2) defeated new star of Cordell Tinch (13.07) and Freddie Crittenden (13.23) in the 110m hurdles.

Ryan Crouser (22.86m) won the shot put ahead of Josh Awotunde (22.10m) and Payton Otterdahl (22.09m PB) with Joe Kovacs fourth (21.90m).

Other impressive winners were Brooke Andersen (78.65m) in the hammer, Katie Moon (4.90m world lead) in the pole vault, Valarie Allman (67.66m) in the discus and Tara Davis-Woodhall (6.87m) took the long jump.
