The United States and Vietnam began their World Cup Campaign within Group E! The United States were constantly providing Vietnam problems early, and their efforts were rewarded with Sophia Smith's clinical finish in the 14th minute. The United States continued to get countless opportunities in the first half, but Vietnam's Thi Kim Thanh Tran came up HUGE. Highlighted by a penalty save off of Alex Morgan, Vietnam continued to keep it close with the United States. However, a late goal from Sophia Smith gave the United States a 2-0 lead going into the half. Heading into the second half, the United States were able to get more changes and got their third goal from Lindsey Horan and went on to win 3-0.
