French Championships, Albi, July 28-30
For a nation that is hosting the Olympics in just over a year, the standard of the French Championships was mediocre compared to most other leading European nations and they will find medals hard to come by in Budapest.
There were few world class performances of note but some came in the 110m hurdles with Sasha Zhoya blazing to a marginally wind-assisted hurdles of 13.01/2.3 ahead of Wilhelm Belocians 13.07. Showing the vast French strength in this event, World medallist Pascal Martinot-Lagarde ran 13.25 but still could only finish fourth and Dimitri Bascou, who ran a wind-assisted 13.14 in his heat, failed to finish.
Cyrèna Samba-Mayela produced the top womens performance with a 12.68/0.5 hurdles win.
Mélina Robert-Michon won her 22nd French discus title, having won her first in 2000.
