Chengdu Preview Team Korea Republic Look To Continue their Asian Games Success

The Korea Republic table tennis team arrive in Chengdu after a remarkable run at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou. Picking up a total of eight medals across all events, including a gold medal in the womens doubles by Shin Yubin and Jeon Jihee currently ranked first in the world,  Korea Republic will be looking to turn heads in Chengdu.

With strong assets in both the singles and in the doubles events, the Korea Republic team has a stellar lineup with a multitude of dynamic pairings and will be aiming for success under the groundbreaking playing format comprising five disciplines.

Ultimately, fans can look forward to witnessing intense matches between Korea and other formidable opponents at the ITTF Mixed Team World Cup.

TEAM KOREA REPUBLIC (#4 seed)

SHIN Yubin (World No.8)
Bursting onto the scene in 2021, Shin Yubin forced her way into contention for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics at only 14, making her the youngest member ever to represent the Korean table tennis national team. She exceeded expectations in the Japanese capital, finishing in the R32 at her debut games and has continued to impress at WTT events, including securing two titles in the WTT contender series this season.

JEON Jihee (World No.37)
Moving to Korea Republic aged 16 from China, Jeon Jihee is now considered a key part in the countrys plans to reach the summit of international table tennis. A podium finisher at some of the most prestigious events, including the Asian Games , Grand Finals, World Team Championships and World University Games where she captured gold in the womens singles.

LEE Zion (World No.46)
27-year-old, Lee Zion has played an integral part of the Korea Republic team and is a three time medalist at the Asian Table Tennis Championships. Lees notable achievement includes securing the Womens Singles runner-up position at the 2017 Belgium Challenge.

KIM Nayeong (World No.53)
18-year-old KIM Nayeong has garnered attention as a rising star in the Korea Republic womens table tennis scene. Kim has made rapid progress in the seniors, emerging as a promising young talent, reaching the finals in the womens doubles at multiple events in the WTT contender and WTT Feeder series this year.

JANG Woojin (World No.10)
Renowned for his audacious attacking style, lightning-fast footwork, and a formidable forehand, Jang Woojin has emerged as an indispensable asset for the Korean mens table tennis team in recent years. He boasts an impressive highest ranking of 8th in Mens Singles and currently holds the world no.2 position in Mens Doubles with Lim Jonghoon. In 2023, he showcased his prowess as a finalist in the mens team, doubles, and singles events while securing a commendable third place finish in the mixed doubles at the prestigious Asian Games.

LIM Jonghoon (World No.17)
Lim Jonghoon holds a career-high world ranking of 11th in mens singles. A strong player in both singles and doubles, Lim was a finalist in the mens singles at the 2022 Asian Cup and is currently ranked 2nd in the mens doubles with Jang Woojin were finalists in two thrilling finals in ITTF World Championships Durban and Singapore Smash 2023.  Lim is also ranked 4th in the mixed doubles with Shin Yubin where they claimed the bronze medal at the 19th Asian Games.

LEE Sang Su (World No.28)
The former world no.6, Lee Sangsu is a cornerstone of the Korea Republic mens national team, Lee has helped lead the nation to great success, securing bronze at the 2016 and 2018 World Championships as well as the 2018 Team World Cup. In 2019, he led them to a silver medal finish, threatening to cause a massive upset by winning the doubles match in the finals against China. Lees notable achievement was finishing on the podium at the World Championships in both the singles and doubles event. Earlier this year, paired with Cho Daeseong, Lee clinched the bronze medal in the mens doubles bronze at the World Championships Finals in South Africa.

AN Jaehyun (World No.38)
At 24, An Jaehyun stands out as one of the promising young players in the Korean team and is among the top-performing active singles players for the Korean squad. An made waves in the global table tennis scene when while ranked 159th in the world he reached the semi-finals of the 2019 World Championships and secured the bronze medal.
