Ospreys to host Sale in Bridgend

Ospreys will host their European Challenge Cup last-16 match against Sale in Bridgend on Saturday, 6 April (20:00 BST).

Their usual home, Swansea.com Stadium, has a 20,500 capacity and is available with football landlords Swansea City playing away that weekend.

Ospreys have chosen to stage the game at the smaller Brewery Field.

Ospreys beat Cardiff 27-21 at the 8,000-capacity ground in the United Rugby Championship on 1 January.

An Ospreys statement said: "On the back of the positive feedback we received from supporters after we beat Cardiff there, we've decided to go back to the Brewery Field.

"We'll look to not only recreate the electric atmosphere and exceptional rugby that thrilled supporters at our New Year's Day derby, but put on an even better event as we host our opponents from England."

It will be the first European match to be held in Bridgend since the now defunct Celtic Warriors beat Perpignan 16-15 in January 2004.

New chief executive Lance Bradley said earlier this month the region was looking to move away from the Swansea stadium on a permanent basis, citing the need to be based at a smaller venue.

Ospreys have been playing at the ground since 2005-06 after spending the first two seasons of their existence playing home games at St Helen's in Swansea and Neath's Gnoll ground.

Ospreys set up the Challenge Cup knockout match by defeating Lions 38-28 in Johannesburg after previous wins against Benetton and Perpignan.

They are the only Welsh region to qualify for the last 16 in either of this season's European tournaments.
