Gilchrist banned for Scotland's Six Nations opener
Written by I Dig SportsLock Grant Gilchrist has been banned from Scotland's Six Nations opener in Wales because of the red card he was shown while playing for Edinburgh.
It means the ex-captain, 33, will sit out the game in Cardiff on 3 February.
He did not dispute the charge by the independent disciplinary hearing and was banned for the minimum one week.
Gilchrist missed Scotland's final two games of last year's Six Nations through suspension.
He was sent off just six minutes into the win against France in Paris for a high tackle and received a three-week ban.
The second row was named in Gregor Townsend's Six Nations squad earlier this month alongside the experienced pair of Richie Gray and Scott Cummings.
Sam Skinner, who returned from injury for Edinburgh two weeks ago, and his club-mate Glen Young - who was last capped against Argentina in 2022 - were also included.
