Skupski and Krawczyk beaten in mixed doubles final
Written by I Dig Sports
Britain's Neal Skupski and American partner Desirae Krawczyk narrowly missed out on the Australian Open mixed doubles title as they lost the final to Hsieh Su-wei and Jan Zielinski.
Skupski and Krawczyk missed a match point as they lost 6-7 (5-7) 6-4 11-9 to the Taiwanese-Polish duo.
They had led 4-2 in the second set before losing four straight games.
Skupski and Krawczyk were bidding for a third major together, having twice won at Wimbledon.
The victory at Melbourne Park secured Hsieh her first mixed doubles Grand Slam title, with the 38-year-old also having secured her spot in Sunday's women's doubles final alongside Elise Mertens.
"We didn't have anyone to play mixed doubles with. We found each other on the looking list and it's worked out pretty well," Zielinski said.
"Maybe we can keep it going."
