First baseman C.J. Cron has agreed to a minor league deal with the Boston Red Sox that includes an invitation to big league camp for spring training.

The Red Sox announced the deal Sunday, and Red Sox manager Alex Cora said the right-handed hitter likely will make his spring training debut March 11 against the Pittsburgh Pirates.

Cron, 34, played for the Colorado Rockies and Los Angeles Angels in 2023, batting .248 with 12 home runs and 37 RBIs in 71 games. He was hampered by back issues for much of last year.

Cron was an All-Star in 2022, hitting .257 with 29 homers and a career-best 102 RBIs in 150 games for the Rockies.

Cron, who broke into the majors with the Angels in 2014, is a .260 hitter with 187 homers and 604 RBIs in 1,049 career games. He also has played for Tampa Bay, Minnesota and Detroit.

He has appeared in 16 games at Fenway Park, batting .328 (21-for-64) with six homers and 13 RBIs.

The Associated Press and Field Level Media contributed to this report.
