Eberle agrees to 2-year extension with Kraken

The Seattle Kraken and Jordan Eberle agreed to a two-year extension worth $4.75 million annually on Friday, a move that takes a prominent winger out of play ahead of the 3 p.m. ET trade deadline.

Eberle's future with the Kraken had been in question for quite some time. He was a pending UFA on a roster that was trying to seek a consecutive playoff berth. But as inconsistencies saw the Kraken fall behind in the Western Conference wild-card race, it led to the belief that the Kraken could seek to move their alternate captain.

It left Eberle and the Kraken facing a decision to either move him to a contender or possibly re-sign him to a new deal. The idea that Eberle could depart the club further intensified with the Kraken trading center Alexander Wennberg to the New York Rangers earlier in the week.

His decision to remain with the Kraken means the club will keep their third-leading goal scorer as they seek a return to the playoffs. The Kraken (28-23-11) entered Friday six points behind the defending Stanley Cup champion Vegas Golden Knights in the wild-card race.
