Minnesota Timberwolves All-Star center Karl-Anthony Towns underwent surgery to repair a lateral meniscus tear in his left knee, the team announced Tuesday.

The Timberwolves characterized the surgery as a success and said Towns will be reevaluated in four weeks, at which point further updates will be provided.

Four weeks from Tuesday is April 9, which falls during the last week of the NBA regular season. ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski reported last week that Towns is expected to be back by early in the Western Conference playoffs.

The Timberwolves (44-21) are vying for the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference, trailing the Oklahoma City Thunder by 1 games and the Denver Nuggets by 1 game entering play Tuesday.

Towns, who made his fourth All-Star Game in 2024, is one of five players in the NBA averaging 20 points, 50% shooting and 40% on 3-pointers, according to ESPN Stats & Information research. The Timberwolves have a 116.5 offensive efficiency with Towns on the floor -- and 106.1 without him.
