Georgia challenge 'Wooden Spoon' Wales to Test match
Written by I Dig SportsGeorgian Rugby president Ioseb Tkemaladze says it would be a "huge honour" to host a Test match against Wales in Tbilisi.
On X, the Georgians offered to play Warren Gatland's side in the autumn, with the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) responding: "We'll be in touch..."
And Tkemaladze claimed the WRU are assessing their schedule after receiving the offer.
"It would be a huge honour," Tkemaladze told BBC Sport Wales.
"We started talking and they are looking at their schedules. Let's stay in touch - it is already positive for us."
It comes after Wales landed the Wooden Spoon having lost all five of their Six Nations matches for the first time since 2003.
Conversely, Georgia won all five fixtures - beating Portugal 36-10 in the final - to win the Rugby Europe Championship for the seventh consecutive year.
Should the proposed fixture go ahead, it would be unofficially dubbed a 'Six Nations play-off' amid calls for promotion and relegation within Europe's premier international competitions.
"I see some comments about it being play-off," Tkemaladze said.
"Wales gave their answer in the World Cup (Wales beating Georgia in October 2023), but there is an intrigue, people would love it.
"I have mentioned it before, to have games for us at home would be such a big event and celebration, we are already winners."
Wales have faced Georgia on five occasions. They secured a slender 13-6 victory in a 2017 autumn Test before a more emphatic 43-14 success at the 2019 World Cup in Japan.
They then won 18-0 in Cardiff in November 2020 but suffered a shock 12-13 loss two years later.
Gatland's men clinched a convincing 43-19 victory in the most recent meeting between the sides - which came at last year's World Cup in France.
"For us it is a huge moment; Wales have never been in Georgia, we want to open country to the Welsh people," added Tkemaladze.
"When we have been in Cardiff, (in 2022) we shocked them. They were perfect hosts.
"For the Georgians it would be a gift from the gods, we are ready to open the doors.
"We are doing our best and hope they will answer."
