Chen Mengs Quest for a Second Womens World Cup Triumph

Making her Womens Cup debut in style in 2020, Chen Meng swept past Bernadette Szocs, Lily Zhang and Han Ying to reach the finals where she defeated teammate Sun Yingsha 4-1 (11-13, 11-6, 11-9, 11-6, 11-8) and claimed the prestigious Hammarlund Cup.

Since her victory in 2020, the table tennis landscape has evolved significantly, ushering in a new era of competition and talent. As Chen Meng prepares for the upcoming tournament in Macao, she finds herself in a different position from her entry into Weihai in 2020.  Back in 2020, she entered Weihai as the World No. 1 and top seed of the event, however in the intervening years her position in the world rankings has dropped to World No. 4, with players like Sun Yingsha, Wang Manyu, and Wang Yidi rising in the ranks. Despite multiple finals appearances, including at the ITTF World Championships Finals 2023, Chen Meng has experienced a title drought since her last singles victory at the Singapore Smash 2022.

However, with over two decades of experience on the table and numerous accolades adorning her career, including two Olympic gold medals from the 2020 Summer Olympic Games, Chen remains resolute in her determination to uphold her legacy as the defending Womens World Cup champion. There are no signs of her slowing down anytime soon as she continues to strive for excellence on the table and cement her place in table tennis history.

As she sets her sights on reclaiming her Womens World Cup title, she faces her toughest challenge in the form of World No.1, Sun Yingsha. Looking to avenge her loss in 2020, Sun Yingsha enters the competition as the current World Champion and is boosted by a year of strong performances in the WTT series and ITTF events, claiming nine womens singles titles in the past year.

Make sure you get your tickets now to witness the action and whether Chen Meng can emerge victorious and claim her second ITTF Womens World Cup trophy and her first Womens Singles title in two years!
