Tigres goalkeeper Nahuel Guzmán has been given an 11-game ban by the Mexican Football Federation following an investigation of "inappropriate conduct" by the player during Week 15's Clasico Regio match against Monterrey.

Guzmán, who was injured and in the stands for the match that ended 3-3, was seen using a laser pointer towards Monterrey goalkeeper Esteban Andrada and later offered his apologies on social media a day after the event.

On Thursday, the FMF's disciplinary committee announced that it would "sanction the player Nahuel Ignacio Guzmán Palomeque of Club Tigres with 11 suspension games, a financial sanction, and hours of community service, for the conduct shown during the match" that violated federation rules.

Following the ruling, Tigres announced that they would also "apply sanctions based on our internal code," which includes an additional fine for the goalkeeper.

Additional fines were also given to both teams and Andrada after the Clasico Regio.

Guzman is still recovering from a knee injury and has yet to play for Tigres since March 9. With two games left in the regular season, the decision officially rules out the 38-year-old Argentine from the rest of the 2024 Clausura tournament and through at least the beginning of the 2024 Apertura.

Widely known in Mexico for pushing the envelope, Guzman went viral last August when he pulled a ribbon out of his mouth in order to distract a penalty-taker during the Leagues Cup.

Tigres, currently 7th in the Liga MX table, will continue their push for a playoff invitation with a home game against Necaxa on Saturday. Monterrey, 3rd in the table, will visit Leon on the same day.
