Kane: German 'soft spot' for England after move

Harry Kane believes some German fans are secretly hoping England thrive at Euro 2024 because of his debut season with Bayern Munich.

The 30-year-old was unable to win a trophy with Bayern as Bayer Leverkusen won their first Bundesliga title but the England captain still registered a remarkable 44 goals in 45 games across all competitions following his 120 million ($129.4m) move from Tottenham.

England and hosts Germany are among the favourites to win this summer's finals and Kane said: "The reception I've had since I've been at Bayern has been incredible and ever since I've been in the [England team] hotel, I've had some of the staff come up and say hello.

"I'm not saying they want England to win, but I think they have a little soft spot for us -- now I'm here -- and that's fantastic."

Kane also revealed that Bayern teammate Thomas Müller left a message for him at England's Weirmarer Land Golf and Spa Resort base in Blankenhain.

Germany used the facility for their two warm-up games prior to moving to northern Bavarian town Herzogenaurach for the tournament and Kane said: "Tommy left me a little note, because they were here just a couple of weeks ago.

"He said the golf course is great but the weather has not been so good! It looks fantastic, the hotel is incredible and to be in Germany is a bit of a home from home."

Kane is set to skipper England in their opening Group C match against Serbia in Gelsenkirchen on Sunday.
