Ex-Raider Jones pleads no contest, may avoid jail

Former Las Vegas Raiders defensive end Chandler Jones pleaded no contest on June 17 to a domestic violence charge and will avoid jail time if he meets certain conditions, according to Clark County (Nevada) court documents.

Jones received a suspended 90-day jail sentence. The charge will be dismissed if he stays out of trouble for the next six months and has no contact with the victim, except for Family Court orders, according to the records.

Jones, 34, was arrested in Las Vegas in September and charged with a misdemeanor for violating a domestic violence temporary protective order. He was arrested again in October for violating the protective order.

He was charged with two misdemeanors in September, but one of those charges was dismissed when he made his plea, according to the records.

The Raiders released Jones after his arrest in September. At the time, he was in the second season of a three-year, $51 million contract.

Before he was released, Jones had been away from the Raiders since Labor Day weekend, when he made a series of social media posts aimed at the team, owner Mark Davis, then-general manager Dave Ziegler and then-coach Josh McDaniels. The Raiders had placed Jones on the non-football injury/illness list on Sept. 20.

Jones, who has been selected to four Pro Bowls and has received two first-team All-Pro nods, didn't play in the NFL last season after he was arrested. He has 112 sacks over 11 seasons.
