Reds' Encarnacion-Strand to have wrist surgery
Written by I Dig SportsCincinnati Reds first baseman Christian Encarnacion-Strand will undergo surgery to repair ligaments in his right wrist, manager David Bell said Tuesday.
Encarnacion-Strand, who has been sidelined since early May with a fractured bone in his wrist, will have surgery on July 11 with an expected recovery timeline of three months.
Bell declined to say whether Encarnacion-Strand would play again this season, but if the timeline holds he would not return during the regular season.
Encarnacion-Strand suffered the injury April 27 when he took a pitch off the wrist. He missed four games, then returned to play four games before going on the injured list.
He is batting .190 this season with two home runs and 35 strikeouts in 29 games.
The Reds entered the day at 37-41, 8 games behind the NL Central-leading Milwaukee Brewers.
