Briton Luke Johnson and partner N.Sriram Balaji of India are also out following a 6-4 7-5 defeat against Marcelo Arevalo and Mate Pavic of El Salvador and Croatia.

Defending champions Neal Skupski and Wesley Koolhof are not playing together this year.

Instead, Briton Skupski joins Michael Venus of New Zealand and will take on Austrians Alexander Erler and Lucas Miedler later on court five.

Koolhof of the Netherlands partners Croat Nikola Mektic and faces Argentine duo Mariano Navone and Federico Coria.

In the women's draw, Briton Olivia Nicholls and Slovak Tereza Mihalikova upset sixth seeded Brazilian-Dutch duo Demi Schuurs and Luisa Stefani 6-4 6-0.

But Britons Tara Moore and Sarah Beth Grey were beaten 6-1 6-2 by third seeds Nicole Melichar-Martinez and Ellen Perez of the US and Australia.
