SUNDERLAND HARRIERS 5km, inc Northern Championships, Silksworth, Tyne & Wear, July 11
Chris Coulson came out on top to win the Northern 5km Championships in one of two races where men and women were split.
The Houghton Harrier won by 11 seconds from Finn Brodie, with a personal best 14:26, in a race where the top five were inside 15 minutes. This was an improvement of 26 seconds on his previous mark.
In seventh, Darrell Hastie, the British & Irish Masters M40 cross-country champion, took the Northern Masters title in 15:01, just four seconds outside his personal best.
The women had a separate race with the over-50 men and it was Stacey Smith who crossed the line first from a bevy of M50 masters led by Lindsay McEwen.
The former double English Schools 800m silver medallist, from 16 years earlier, was 38 seconds outside her best set earlier this year with a 16:29 clocking.
It was an 18-second personal best for McEwan with his 17:00 timing, that saw him home six seconds clear of triathlon international Paul Dobson to claim the M50 title.
