History is in the making tonight as, for the first time ever, Paralympic table tennis will award mixed doubles medals! While mens and womens doubles have returned after a 38-year hiatus, Paris 2024 marks the groundbreaking debut of mixed doubles in the Paralympics. The stage is set for an unforgettable battle, with the first-ever Mixed Doubles final, the Class 17 Mixed Doubles final, kicking off at 18:00 GMT +2 with finalists to be determined in the opening session today.

Kicking the day off, we will witness Chinas Peng Weinan and Xiong Guiyan face off against Polands Piotr Grudzien and Carolina Pek, while Chinas Zhao Shuai and Mao Jingdian battle Ukraines Viktor Didukh and Iryna Shunkarova in the semi-finals. These teams will fight to etch their names in the history books as the first-ever mixed doubles finalists at the Paralympic Games.

Following the introduction of the Mixed Team World Cup, the inclusion of Mixed Doubles in the Paralympics will continue ITTFs goals in pioneering an avenue of expression that champions gender equality, diversity, and the collaborative spirit of teamwork in table tennis. This new event not only reshapes the Paralympic table tennis landscape but also introduces a new platform to showcase athletes prowess.
