Celtic storm past Rangers in season's 1st Old Firm derby
Written by I Dig SportsCeltic claimed an emphatic 3-0 home victory over arch rivals Rangers in the first Old Firm derby of the season.
Rangers had some early opportunies to open the scoring, but they could not capitalise. Celtic looked to have made them pay when Kyogo Furuhashi tapped home on 12 minutes only for VAR to rule it out for an offside in the build-up.
However, Brenden Rodgers' side would not be denied. Daizen Maeda netted the first goal of the game six minutes later, converting a low cross from right-back Alistair Johnston.
Kyogo got his goal just before half-time, stroking a long-ranged curled effort into the bottom-right corner. It wouldn't be Celtic's last goal of the game, though, nor their best.
Callum McGregor hit a superb left-footed strike from around 25-yards out that flew past Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland.
The result maintains Celtic's winning start to the Scottish Premiership season and keeps them top of the table with 12 points from four games. It was Rangers' first defeat of the season.
