Class 11 Singles Kick Off today at Paris 2024 Paralympics

The excitement continues at the Paris 2024 Paralympics as the Class 11 singles events in Para table tennis kick off today. Class 11 is specifically designated for athletes with intellectual impairments who meet the sport-specific criteria set for Para table tennis, making this a unique and highly competitive category.

Para table tennis is one of only three sports to feature Class 11 events at the Paralympic Games with swimming and athletics also featuring events for athletes with intellectual impairments, highlighting its commitment to inclusivity and providing opportunities for athletes with intellectual impairments. The Paris 2024 Paralympics marks the second time Class 11 Singles have been featured in the Para table tennis schedule.

This year, the Class 11 singles events will see 20 players vying for the coveted medals at Paris 2024. Among the standout athletes competing are Tokyo 2020 gold medallists Peter Palos from Hungary and Elena Prokofeva (NPA), both of whom are aiming to defend their titles. The competition promises to be exciting, with a mix of experienced Paralympians and newcomers.

The Round of 16 started this afternoon, with Brazils Thiago Gomes claiming his spot in the quarterfinals, defeating Egypts Abdelrahman Abdalla in straight sets and reigning Paralympic Champion Palos, starting this journey to defend his medal, defeating Hong Kongs Leung Chung Yan 3-1. 

As the competition unfolds, all eyes will be on the medal matches scheduled for Thursday, September 5th. The Class 11 singles events at Paris 2024 are set to deliver unforgettable moments. with a variety of competitors, fans can expect to see skillful play and determination from all participants.
