Swiatek heads into US Open quarters still perfect
Written by I Dig Sports
NEW YORK -- Top seed Iga Swiatek walloped Liudmila Samsonova 6-4 6-1 to reach the quarterfinals at the US Open on Monday, keeping her pristine sprint through Flushing Meadows on track at Arthur Ashe Stadium.
Swiatek, the only former champion remaining in the women's draw, has not lost a set since she arrived in New York and looked every bit the veteran in her 100th major match as she dropped only four of her first serve points.
Samsonova was on the hunt for her first major quarterfinal but never got into the match as she was unable to set up a single break point and unforced errors cost her dearly.
Swiatek next faces American Jessica Pegula, who the world No. 1 eliminated in the 2022 US Open quarterfinals en route to one of her five Grand Slam titles.
