Jets DE Johnson announces he has torn Achilles
Written by I Dig SportsNew York Jets edge rusher Jermaine Johnson announced on social media that he has a torn Achilles tendon and will miss the rest of the season.
"I did tear my Achilles," Johnson said in a video. "But we good, man. We're in great spirits. We're going to get back right."
The Jets feared a torn right Achilles tendon for Johnson when he left Sunday's win over the Tennessee Titans with a noncontact injury in the third quarter.
"I thought somebody stepped on me," Johnson said Sunday. "Then I looked at the replay and nobody stepped on it, and I was like, 'Damn.' But, man, I'm in positive spirits. I got my crying out on the field a little bit. I'm probably going to get a little more crying in tonight. But after that, you know, 24-hour or 48-hour mourning rule for me and we'll be back to work."
On Monday, he continued to have a positive attitude about the situation on social media.
Thank everyone for all the prayers and support! This is not a dark time for me ,although there will be dark days ahead, this is Gods way for me to not only grow as a man, person and player but to also inspire others to as well!! 11 will be back and better, BOOK IT... pic.twitter.com/DZm2fy6ggQ

The Jets' plan was to pair Johnson and Haason Reddick as their bookend pass rushers. But Reddick hasn't reported since joining the team in a March 29 trade as he is unhappy with his contract. Johnson's injury might now put pressure on the Jets to resolve Reddick's contract situation.
Information from ESPN's Rich Cimini was used in this report.
