Boyles, Torgerson & Busch Shine In Tulsa
Written by I Dig SportsTULSA, Okla. Rolling through Race No. 144 on Wednesday of a scheduled 389 events during the 40th annual Smileys Racing Products Tulsa Shootout powered by NOS Energy Drink, several drivers are stacking up heat race wins, while some will find themselves in the soup.
Veteran Missouri racer Clinton Boyles has been a standout through the first full day of competition in the event that runs through Saturday evening. Boyles, who also serves as a commentator on the race broadcast, has won three of the four heat races hes run.
Boyles triumphed in the WFO Outlaw, Hyper Non-Wing Outlaw and EVO Fuel Injection A-Class. Likewise, 2024 EVO Fuel Injection A-Class Champion Ashton Torgerson has captured wins in the same divisions.
Eighteen drivers have collected multiple heat race victories. Among those is two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch, who triumphed in the Outlaw and Non-Winged classes. Buschs son, Brexton, also won a heat.
Brent Crews was also among those with a pair of heat victories.
Lucas Oil Late Model Series champion Ricky Thornton Jr. and NASCAR driver Sheldon Creed were also among the other heat race winners.
The biggest mover of the night was Kanon Posey, who went ninth to first in Race No. 62. Kale Drake, Blake Hahn, Owen Larson and Jax Wittmer each picked up seven spots to win their heats.
Drivers winning from beyond the second-row No. 23, with the average starting spot for a heat race winner, currently third.
