VALENCIA, Spain – Marc Marquez’s new teammate at Repsol Honda next season will have a familiar last name.
Marquez’s younger brother, 23-year-old Alex Marquez, will join him on Repsol Honda’s MotoGP roster beginning next season. Alex Marquez replaces the departing Jorge Lorenzo, who recently announced his retirement from MotoGP.
Like his older brother, Alex Marquez has put together a successful career in the lower divisions. In 2014 he won the Moto3 World Championship and he added the Moto2 World Championship this season.
The Marquez brothers are the only brothers to win world motorcycle racing titles during the same season, with the elder of the two brothers winning the MotoGP title in 2014 and 2019 in addition to Alex Marquez’s Moto3 and Moto2 titles.
