RCR Confirms Cup Series Crew Chief Lineup

WELCOME, N.C. – Richard Childress Racing confirmed the crew chiefs who will be working with drivers Austin Dillon and Tyler Reddick in the NASCAR Cup Series on Friday afternoon.

After a breakout season with the No. 2 Xfinity Series championship team, Randall Burnett will once again team up with Reddick and lead him as a Sunoco Rookie of the Year candidate during the 2020 season.

Burnett, who has been atop the pit box at RCR for the last three years, spent time prior to that working with A.J. Allmendinger at JTG Daugherty Racing in the NASCAR Cup Series. He has led RCR drivers to one championship, six wins, 35 top-five finishes, 56 top-10 finishes, and six pole awards during his time as an RCR Xfinity Series crew chief.

Making the move to Cup is a well-deserved promotion for the Fenton, Mo., native.

“It’s exciting to be going back to the NASCAR Cup Series and continuing to work with Tyler next season,” said Burnett. “We had a lot of fun working together in the Xfinity Series while capturing the championship, so I’m looking forward to taking on the challenges of the Cup Series with him. Our goal is to win the Sunoco Rookie of the Year, which we’ll have some tough competition for next season, but also to get RCR back to the level of competition where I know we can be.

“We’d love to be competing in the top-five during the year and contending for wins, and I think it is possible if we put in the amount of work that I know we can,” Burnett added. “It’s going to be an exciting year for us all around, especially with great partners like Caterpillar on board the No. 8 Chevrolet.”

Justin Alexander, who spent the last year leading RCR’s R&D team, also looks forward to his crew chief position and leading two-time NASCAR champion Dillon in the No. 3 Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 1LE for the 2020 season.

Having found success with Dillon during the 2017 and 2018 seasons, Alexander feels that being back with the No. 3 team is the right move.

“It feels great to be teamed up with Austin again after a year of working in an R&D position,” said Alexander. “The relationship that we have been able to build over the years is one that I know can lead to more poles and wins.”

Alexander and Dillon have two marquee wins during their time together, the first coming at the well-known 2017 Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

Just nine months later, the two found victory lane again in the kickoff to the 2018 NASCAR season, winning the 60th running of the Daytona 500 at Daytona Int’l Speedway.

“Both of these crew chiefs will complement each other because of their backgrounds, demeanors, and approaches to leading a team,” said RCR Vice President of Competition Andy Petree. “Randall and Justin are exactly who we need to bring both teams together to work as one, and due to the engineering backgrounds they both have, we’re looking forward to a strong 2020 season.”
