Sweet & Macedo Double Down In Sydney

SYDNEY – Americans Brad Sweet and Carson Macedo doubled up on their A-Main successes Saturday at Valvoline Raceway during round two of Ultimate Sydney Speedweek.

Sweet collected his second-straight Ultimate Sprintcars feature at the track, while Macedo collected his second-straight Speedcars midget victory.

Sweet backed up his Boxing Day night success with a nail-biting win in the 35-lap sprint car feature, narrowly defeating Jamie Veal and Macedo. It was Sweet’s second win and Veal’s second runner-up finish in as many rounds of Speedweek so far.

Sweet came from the second row of the grid to win the Ultimate Sprintcar feature, but not before surviving a torrid battle with Veal for much of the race.

Marcus Dumesny continued his consistency with a top four result. Robbie Farr came from the fifth row to finish fifth.

Texan Aaron Reutzel was having a blazing run in the Saller Motorsport Triple X and he pulled off a 360-degree spin in turn two whilst challenging for a position in the top three after clipping a left rear with his right front, only to loop it again shortly after, resulting in a caution flag.

Sent to the rearm, Reutzel screamed back to sixth by the waving of the checkered in a barnstorming run in the new car the team put together after the previous chassis was destroyed on Boxing Day.

Grant Tunks placed eighth with Lynton Jeffrey in ninth and Ian Madsen barely scraping through for the transfer from the B-Main with a deflating right rear tyre to run top ten in the A-Main.

Macedo backed up his Speedcar success on Dec. 14 with a victory in the Ultimate Speedway Challenge round over Sam Walsh and Michael Stewart.

Had he won the sprint car feature as well, Macedo would have become the only person in the 42-year history of Valvoline Raceway to win twice in one night on two separate occasions.

The Speedcar podium was filled by drivers doing double duty in Speedcars and sprint cars, with Walsh making fantastic drive to second in the Brett Morris-owned, TRD-powered King chassis.

Walsh and Macedo traded passes for much of the main as Stewart, Matt Jackson and Nathan Smee and nephew Harley went at it.

Troy Jenkins was in a top four proposition as well before a flat left-rear tire on the Swap n Go No. 78 ended his race prematurely.

The Modified Sedan 15-lap Twin A-Mains went to Aidan Raymont (Odds A-Main) and Max Clarke (Evens A-Main).

The finish:

Brad Sweet, Jamie Veal, Carson Macedo, Marcus Dumesny, Robbie Farr, Aaron Reutzel, Alex Orr, Grant Tunks, Lynton Jeffrey, Ian Madsen, Jeremy Cross, Jessie Attard, Michael Stewart, Daniel Sayre, Warren Ferguson, Max Dumesny, Daniel Cassidy, Shaun Dobson, Troy Little, Andrew Wright, Jackson Delamont, Sam Walsh, Ryan Jones.
