Central Tour Confirmed For King Of The Wing

MOUNTAIN HOME, Idaho – King of the Wing officials have announced that the King of the Wing National Sprint Car Series’ Central Tour will take place July 3-5.

In addition to a two-day show at Colorado National Speedway, the series will travel 76 miles north to Intermountain Speedway (formerly Big Country Speedway) in Cheyenne,
Wyo.

Shortly after completing the 2019 races, Colorado National Speedway promoter Jim Nordhougen invited the tour back for a return engagement on Independence Day weekend.

Friday, July 3 will kick off with a 30-lap feature event, while Saturday, July 4 will feature a 40-lap headliner.

Jason Conn set the initial track record for the series on its first trip there in 2016 at 14.013 seconds, while two-time defending series champion Eric Humphries bettered that time by almost a half second in 2019 with a 13.542-second clip during the Saturday night event.

Bobby Santos won both races at the three-eighths-mile oval in Dacono, Colo., in 2019.

The three-day weekend will conclude Sunday, July 5 at Intermountain Speedway in
Cheyenne, Wyo., the first ever trip by King of the Wing to the quarter-mile oval.

“This will be the biggest show ever to come to Intermountain Speedway,” said track promoter Perry Kinard. “Our fans are in for a thrill; these are the fastest asphalt short track
cars in the country.”

Of note, the King of the Wing Sprint Car Series will not tour in the Southeast in 2020.

“We worked hard over the last month with the Southern Sprintcar Shootout Series and several tracks in South Central Florida. Unfortunately, the clock ran out on trying to secure dates,” said series director Tom Hartsell.

“We were up against the clock, it would be unfair to our teams to announce a date with little time to prepare,” added series founder Davey Hamilton. “We are now working with
the SSSS and the South-Central (Florida) tracks to get on the schedule in 2021.”

“The rest of our 2020 schedule is coming together and we are close to finalizing tracks in the Midwest and Northwest regions,” noted King of the Wing Administration Director Bill Adams. “As soon as we confirm the tracks, announcements will be made.”
