ACACIA RIDGE, Australia – After a back-and-forth scrap at the front of the field, Donny Schatz passed Rusty Hickman coming to the white flag to win Saturday’s World Series Sprint Car feature at Ausdeck Archerfield Speedway.
Schatz used a run off the top side of the fourth corner to dispatch Hickman for the top spot, driving off to a 1.180-second victory on the final lap in his No. USA15 sprinter.
It was Schatz’s fourth victory in four starts this winter at Archerfield.
Hickman hung on to collect runner-up honors, followed by Kerry Madsen, Dave Murcott and another American in Pennsylvania’s Lucas Wolfe.
James McFadden crossed the line sixth, followed by Andrew Scheuerle, Lachlan McHugh, Steven Lines and Kevin Titman.
Nineteen of the 20 starters finished the 35-lap feature, with only Brooke Tatnell failing to reach the checkered flag after falling out with six to go.
