Solskjaer, Santo address Jimenez to United links

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Nuno Espirito Santo both faced questions about the future of Raul Jimenez following Manchester United's FA Cup tie at Wolves after the Mexico striker was linked with a move to Old Trafford.

United are looking for a forward after missing out on Erling Braut Haaland and Solskjaer admitted he had been impressed with Jimenez after he came on as a second-half substitute during the 0-0 draw at Molineux on Saturday.

"Another good player being linked with us," Solskjaer told a news conference. "He came on and did really well. Loads of players are being linked with us. I can't comment on speculation."

Jimenez, 28, joined Wolves from Benfica in 2018 and has scored 34 goals in 77 games.

"It's the first time I heard it," said Santo. "Ole didn't mention anything about that. The transfer window is open. When it is open anything can happen.

"As managers we have to be ready because anything can happen. We are very happy with Raul."

Solskjaer was forced to field an understrength team against Wolves after Anthony Martial, Jesse Lingard and Luke Shaw were ruled out with illness.

United face Manchester City at Old Trafford on Tuesday in their Carabao Cup semifinal first leg and the United boss is hoping to have the trio available.

"I hope so," he said. "They had a night or two in their own beds, some paracetamol and we'll check Monday probably. Some will be in tomorrow [Sunday]."

United centre-back Harry Maguire was seen limping after a first-half challenge on Wolves winger Adama Traore. He never left the game, but Solskjaer told reporters afterward that he was unsure if the defender would be fit enough for the clash with City on Tuesday.

"I don't know," Solakjaer said. "We were close to taking him off at half-time, but he battled through. Let's see how he recovers. We hope so."
