Solskjaer not optimistic over deadline deals

MANCHESTER -- Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has said he is not expecting any more transfer business on deadline day.

United have splashed out to sign Sporting Lisbon midfielder Bruno Fernandes and have seen a bid rejected for Bournemouth striker Josh King.

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe refused to rule out the possibility that King could leave on deadline day but Solskjaer was not optimistic at a news conference on Friday morning.

"I don't think we'll do any more business," Solskjaer said. "January has always been difficult [to do business]. I'm happy with the ones I've got here. Bruno coming is the big thing."

Solskjaer wants to sign a striker in the final hours of the transfer window after injury to Marcus Rashford.

"Sometimes I say something here and something else happens, sometimes I say I am happy with a player and he gets a different message so I don't want to help or make speculation grow more and more today," Solskjaer said.

"I expect nothing to happen but that doesn't mean it can't happen."

Despite the United manager's pessimism over any more deals, Bournemouth manager Howe could not confirm whether King, who made two substitute appearances for United from 2009-13, would stay at the club during Friday's news conference.

"I don't want to talk too much about Josh because there's still a day to go," Howe said.

"Let's wait and see. He's a massive part of our team

"I understand Josh's position and what Manchester United means to him.

"If I see my phone ringing today and it's Neill Blake [chief executive] calling, I'd be worried."

Fernandes officially became a United player on Thursday after a drawn out transfer sage ended in a move to Old Trafford that could end up costing €80 million if a series of targets are met.

The Portugal international will train with his new teammates on Friday and is in the squad to face Wolves on Saturday.

"He's fit to play and he will be involved, definitely he will be in the squad," Solskjaer said.

"He has had a few hectic days now and I don't know how much he will be involved but he will be in the squad.

"We followed him for years and he has grown in that period, more mature, assured performances, a great leader of his team and even with all the speculation that has been around him from every club in Europe linked with him, he stayed focused and played some fantastic football for Sporting Lisbon.

"It tells us how professional he is and when you get to meet him and see him, he's a fantastic human being."
