Brett Moffitt Injured In Motocross Bike Accident

STATESVILLE, N.C. – GMS Racing officials confirmed Monday that NASCAR Gander RV & Outdoors Truck Series driver Brett Moffitt was injured in a motocross bike accident on Saturday.

Per the team statement, Moffitt “suffered a fracture in both of his legs” as a result of the crash, but “is in very good spirits.”

A full recovery is expected for the Grimes, Iowa native, who underwent surgery as a result of the injuries.

Moffitt is expected to have six to eight weeks of rehabilitation while he recovers from the incident, but considering that the motorsports world is effectively on pause while the global community deals with the coronavirus pandemic, it’s possible he may not miss any races.

NASCAR officials have already postponed this weekend’s planned tripleheader at Homestead-Miami (Fla.) Speedway, and subsequent events seem likely to follow in the wake of a recommendation from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that all events of 50 or more people be cancelled for the next eight weeks.

The sanctioning body has not made a final determination of the status of its planned race weekend at Texas Motor Speedway, March 27-29, which would include a Friday night Truck Series race as part of the festivities.

Beyond Texas, the next scheduled Truck Series event is at Richmond (Va.) Raceway on April 18.

Moffitt won the Truck Series championship in 2018 while driving for Hattori Racing Enterprises. In two starts this season, he has finishes of 13th at Daytona Int’l Speedway and 16th at Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway and sits fourth in the point standings.
