CHARLOTTE, N.C. – NASCAR Hall of Famer and four-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Jeff Gordon confirmed during Wednesday Night iRacing on FS1 that he will participate in Sunday’s eNASCAR iRacing Pro Invitational Series event at Talladega (Ala.) Superspeedway.

Gordon, who retired from NASCAR at the end of 2015 but returned for eight races in 2016 as a substitute for the injured Dale Earnhardt Jr., will be making his Pro Invitational debut after spending the first four races in his normal booth analyst’s role for FOX Sports.

“Man, I’m gonna give it a try,” Gordon said in response to a question from Adam Alexander. “We’ve been trying to get me behind the wheel of one of these sim rigs and now I’m coming out of retirement, boys! It’s going to be fun.”

A 93-time NASCAR Cup Series victor, Gordon ranks third on the premier division’s all-time wins list. He won series titles in 1995, 1997, 1998 and 2001, all with Hendrick Motorsports.

He also has 81 poles and 477 top-10 finishes in 805 total Cup Series starts.

Gordon’s career car number – the No. 24 – has been in good hands during the last two races on the Pro Invitational schedule, as William Byron has carried it to virtual victory lane at both Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway and Richmond (Va.) Raceway.

It is unclear as of now what number Gordon will carry on Sunday, though the Trading Paints software and custom numbers ability would allow both he and Byron to sport a No. 24.

Sunday’s eNASCAR iRacing Pro Invitational Series event will be a 70-lap affair at the virtual 2.66-mile oval that routinely produces some of the most thrilling action in sim-racing, as well as real life. Drivers will be afforded one fast repair during the 300-kilometer event.
