Sources: Knicks reach 1-year deal with GM Perry

NEW YORK -- Scott Perry will remain the general manager of the New York Knicks after agreeing to a one-year deal, league sources confirmed to ESPN on Wednesday.

"Scott is a well-respected basketball executive who I have known for more than 20 years," Knicks president Leon Rose said in a statement. "And I look forward to continuing to work closely with him as we build a winning team in New York."

A mutual option date of May 1 had loomed for the 2020-21 season. It was always Rose's intention, league sources told ESPN, to keep Perry at least through the 2020-21 season.

Newsday first reported the one-year agreement.

Questions surrounding the future of the Knicks' front office began to swirl after the team parted ways with Steve Mills on Feb. 4. At that point, Perry was elevated to oversee the basketball operations as well as resume his general manager duties. On March 2, owner James Dolan hired Rose -- who was co-head of CAA Sports' basketball division -- as president.

Perry came to New York after serving as the vice president of basketball operations for the Sacramento Kings. Under Perry, the Knicks have hired and dismissed head coach David Fizdale, traded Kristaps Porzingis and drafted RJ Barrett and Mitchell Robinson, among others.

The NBA has been on hiatus since March 11 because of the coronavirus pandemic, and New York has been the epicenter of the outbreak in the United States.
