MARYSVILLE, N.C. — The locked front gate did not deter promoter Dennis Gage from racing for the second time this month last Saturday at Marysville Raceway Park.
Teams supported the quarter-mile dirt track with 32 winged 360 sprint cars, 17 IMCA Northern sport mods and 20 Norcal dwarf cars. Ryan Robinson took the checkered flag in the headlining sprint car division.
Sprint car qualifying started the evening and Tanner Carrick was quickest with a lap fo 12.562 seconds. A quartet of invert four, take four heats moved heat winners and the four fastest among the 16 transfers to a redraw to set the first four rows of the main.
After the B main moved the top four up to create a 20-car grid, the 25-lap main was led to a green by front row redraws, Robinson and Blake Carrick.
The front pair immediately started an intense duel with Carrick leading one lap before Robinson took over. A lap-seven yellow flag erased a Carrick pass for the lead when Robinson slid high in turn four.
When Blake Carrick hooked a rut on lap eight in turn one, Ryan’s sister, Jodie, moved into second to create a rare situation of a brother-sister top two.
Ryan Robinson stayed in front of Jodie Robinson, while Sean Becker pressured for second, making the pass on the outside along the back on lap 19.
Becker drew closer to Robinson but settled for second.
Following Becker across the line were Tanner Carrick, Jodie Robinson and J. J. Hickle.
Other winners were Ryan Winter collecting a win in a close finish with Shawn Jones in dwarf cars and Philip Shelby took the IMCA Northern sport mod checkers.
