HICKORY, N.C. – Hickory Motor Speedway returned to competition for the first time since March on Saturday and it was JR Motorsports driver Josh Berry who captured all the headlines.
Berry swept a pair of 51-lap late model stock car features to headline the night of racing, which was run with an empty grandstand and televised live via an online video stream.
In the first feature, Berry started from the pole and was never seriously challenged as he raced his way to victory over runner-up Gage Painter. Matt Piercy, Austin McDaniel and Corey Heim followed in third through fifth.
For the second 51-lap feature, Berry draw a 10 for an invert, meaning he would start 10th while Mason Ludwig, who finished 10th in the first feature, started from the pole.
It didn’t take Berry long to march to the front. He quickly raced up to third behind Ryan Millington and Heim before dispatching them both by the end of lap 18 to move into the race lead.
Two restarts later in the race didn’t hamper Berry, who went on to win the second 51-lap feature over Painter, Millington, Piercy and Heim.
Other feature winners on Saturday at Hickory included Cody Combs (4 cylinders), Gary Ledbetter (renegades), Drew Cox (street stocks) and Josh Kossek (limited late models).
