Rain Pushes Charlotte Cup Race To Thursday

CONCORD, N.C. – Persistent rainfall in south-central North Carolina forced the postponement of Wednesday night’s Alsco Uniforms 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway.

The showers – part of Tropical Storm Bertha – were quickly described by lead NASCAR on FOX personality Mike Joy as “the party guest that will not leave,” and washed out any hope of racing the 500-km NASCAR Cup Series event as originally scheduled.

The eighth race of the Cup Series season shifts to Thursday night at 7 p.m. as a result of the inclement weather, with live coverage on FS1, the Performance Racing Network and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio, channel 90.

When the race does go green, Hendrick Motorsports teammates William Byron and Alex Bowman will roll off from the front row. Coca-Cola 600 winner Brad Keselowski is scheduled to start 20th in the mid-week event after an inversion of the top 20 set the starting lineup.

The 208 lap, 312 mile event will be run in stages of 55, 60 and 93 laps.

As a result of the Cup Series race being pushed back to Thursday, Saturday’s scheduled Cheddar’s 300 presented by Alsco for the NASCAR Xfinity Series has been shifted to Monday night, June 1 at Bristol (Tenn.) Motor Speedway.

The change comes due to extended broadcast turnaround times due to social distancing guidelines that remain in effect as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.
