Korea Republic miss out on the final (2010 Moscow)

Well well well. It seems to be an oddly bittersweet morning for Team Germany, as their women’s team missed out on the final, but their men’s side has just eliminated one of the favorites to guarantee themselves of a silver medal – minimum!

Defeating Korea Republic’s team by 3-1 overall, the combination of Timo Boll, Dimitrij Ovtcharov and Christian Suss showcased a very collected performance to see off Joo Sehyuk, Oh Sangeun and Ryu Seung Min. Boll went first with a 3-0 (12-10, 11-6, 11-9) win over Ryu, before Ovtcharov needed a full set of games to defeat Oh 3-2(4-11, 11-4, 11-7, 11-13, 11-8). Joo’s win over Suss was a slight hope for Korea Republic, but Boll made sure it formulated to nothing with another straight games win to finish off the tie against Oh (11-3, 11-6, 11-9).

Germany shocked by Singapore! (2010 Moscow)

Team Germany have found themselves eliminated at the penultimate hurdle by Team Singapore, in a 3-0 (3-0, 3-2, 3-0) overall win for the Asians to reach the final against Team China.

Having beaten Team Hong Kong in the quarter-finals, Germany’s Wu Jiaduo, Kristian Silbereisen, Elke Schall and Sabine Winter were all but ready to go on to the final with confidence but for the brilliant showing of Singapore. Feng Tianwei, alongside Yu Mengyu, Wang Yuegu, Sun Beibei and Li Jiawei are now all set for a cracking showdown against their biggest rivals in the final.

China see off Japan’s challenge to reach final (2010 Moscow)

Team China were at it again, as the reigning champions defeated what could have been their closest challengers in a straight games over all win here at the World Team Table Tennis Championships.

Securing a 3-0 win, the same scoreline they recorded against Team Netherlands in the previous round, China’s roster of Liu Shiwen, Guo Yan, Guo Yue, Ding Ning and Li Xiaoxia were too good for Japan’s Ai Fukuhara, Sayaka Hirano, Kasumi Ishikawa, Hiroko Fujii and Ai Fujinuma.
