BEAVER DAM, Wis. – Tim Kaeding will be making his season debut with Sides Motorsports this weekend during the Brownells Big Guns Bash hosted by Knoxville Raceway.
Kaeding will join team owner Jason Sides in a two-car team on Friday and Saturday at the half-mile oval in Knoxville, Iowa, for the next World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series doubleheader.
“It will be good to get back there and get some laps before August,” Sides said. “TK finished fourth in the Knoxville Nationals last year and fifth the year before so we have a lot of confidence. Hopefully he can pick up where he left off. Our goal is to improve on our run last weekend and put both cars in the top 10.”
Sides competed with the Outlaws at Beaver Dam Raceway last weekend, when he made gains in the main event both nights.
He qualified 13th quickest, placed sixth in a heat race and won the Last Chance Showdown before advancing four positions to finish 17th in the A-main on Friday.
“The bottom stayed a lot better than we thought it would,” he said. “When we went out with a full fuel load it was tight. We kept getting rolled up on the right rear. We weren’t that great.”
Things improved as the program progressed on Saturday. Sides timed in 19th quickest in qualifying. He then gained a position to place fourth in a heat race, which locked him into the 15th starting position in the main event.
“I don’t know if I got hung in the middle or some guys got under me, but I lost a few spots early,” he noted. “The longer the race went the better we got and we started picking spots off as we went. I thought we had a shot at the top 10 at the very end, but just didn’t get it done. All in all it was a nice track. It was wide and slick. You could tip toe around the bottom or hustle around the top.”
Sides used a late rally to gain more than a half-dozen positions to finish 11th, which was his best result with the World of Outlaws this season.
“I’m pretty happy with getting to race more,” he said. “It felt more like normal. The first few races back didn’t feel exactly right. Now we’re getting back to feeling normal.”
